Tour Itinerary

Tuesday – Our luxury coach will depart this morning, and head to Folkestone where we will catch the Eurotunnel train to Calais, from there we make our way to our overnight hotel in Dijon for our evening meal with comfort stops on route.

Wednesday – We leave Dijon this morning after breakfast and travel south to our main hotel in the beautiful medieval market town of Uzès.

Thursday – This morning we head to the beautiful city of Avignon, set on the banks of the Rhône with dramatic views of its 800-year-old medieval ramparts surrounding the magnificent Palais des Papes. The famous Pont d’avignon nursery rhyme fame sits majestically half way across the Rhône and the city teems with cobbled streets, quaint boutiques and leafy squares. We will also enjoy an afternoon cruise on the Rhône to see the majestic city from the river.

Friday – Today, we visit the ancient Roman aqueduct of Pont du Gard, an amazing feat of engineering built over 2,000 years ago to take water to the city of Nîmes. You may wish to visit the museum and visitors centre, which provides an interactive insight into how the aqueduct was made. We will continue to the city of Nîmes, which was founded around a spring fed by the Pont du Gard. Visit the beautiful Jardins de la Fontaine, the Roman amphitheatre (the best-preserved arena in France), the Maison Carrée - a Roman temple built around 19BC and still standing today, where you can enjoy a film on the history of the city - or the many shops, cafés and boutiques that line the ancient streets.

Saturday – A day off today, you can relax by the hotel swimming pool or take a stroll into the medieval town of Uzès where the market traditionally takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the morning, on the picturesque Place aux Herbes

Sunday – We begin this morning with a journey to the medieval village of Les Baux de Provence. Perched on top of a fortified rocky site, we visit the unique Carrières de Lumières - an amazing multimedia show inside a huge man-made rock cavern which immerses you in a sound and light show from floor to ceiling. We then continue to the romantic town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, with its attractive centre with plenty of shops, cafés and squares to wander through. The town is famous for its local lavender and as the place where Van Gogh painted ‘The Starry Night’ when staying here. After time for lunch we continue our Provençal adventure to the charming L‘Isle-sur-la-Sorgue - this ‘island town’ is set amongst quaint canals.

Monday – Sadly we say goodbye to Uzès and make our way back to Dijon for our overnight stop. Dinner on arrival.

Tuesday – We leave Dijon and make our way back to Calais and our Eurotunnel crossing, after a wonderful holiday in the Provence. Once back in the UK we journey back to Wiltshire and our waiting taxis early evening after a memorable holiday.
