This tour enjoys 5 nights in beautiful Harrogate and 4 nights in the City of York. We are including a variety of interesting excursions throughout the tour but also free time to relax or explore in both locations at your own pace. With boat trips, a steam train, museums and a day at the seaside in the popular resort of Whitby, this holiday offers plenty for everyone to experience the stunning county of Yorkshire. Both hotels are within easy walking distance for attractions on your free days.

 

Tour Itinerary

 

Tuesday – We depart Wiltshire and head north to the beautiful county of Yorkshire and Harrogate, our first hotel and base for the next 5 nights. Tea and coffee on arrival while your cases are taken to your rooms. Comfort stops on route.

 

Wednesday – Today we are off to Skipton the southern gateway to the Dales. Today is market day in the centre of town so after an hour-long scenic canal cruise with tea, coffee and biscuits and some hilarious commentary, you’ll have the rest of the day to enjoy lunch, the 900-year-old castle, all amongst pretty cobbled streets and the market square.

 

Thursday – Today is a free day for you to enjoy the affluent town of Harrogate with its Royal pump room museum and not forgetting ‘Betty’s tea rooms’ for that extra special treat! Numerous shops and parks to browse, the choice is yours.

 

Friday – This morning we visit nearby Ripon, just half an hour away to discover the history of crime and punishment in Victorian times with a guided tour of the ‘Prison & Police Museum! Discover the harsh realities of the Victorian prison system and the history of Yorkshire policing. Free time for lunch and to visit the beautiful Ripon cathedral before we continue our day travelling through to the heart of the Yorkshire Dales to enjoy the ‘Wensleydale cheese experience. Watch a cheesemaking demonstration, enjoy tastings and learn how these unique flavours and textures are created.

 

Saturday – We begin our day travelling to ‘Herriott Country’ and the lovely market town of Thirsk. We have included a visit to the ‘World of James Herriott’ an award-winning tourist attraction. Walk through his fully restored 1940’s home and surgery, travel back in time to life while this famous vet was practicing. Enjoy the fabulous collection of memorabilia which went on to be an award-winning TV series, ‘All Creatures Great & Small’. After this attraction, enjoy the town for lunch and to explore the town with its regular Saturday market.

 

Sunday – Today we leave Harrogate and travel to the seaside town of Whitby with its picturesque harbour, stunning cliff top views and historic abbey ruins. With glorious beaches and famous for ‘Whitby fish & chips’, enjoy your time here before we continue to our next hotel in the centre of York for the next 4 nights.

 

Monday – After a leisurely breakfast we will walk you over the bridge next to our hotel and down to the River Ouse for a city cruise, a chance to admire York’s historic sites with commentary. The rest of the day is free for you to explore many of Yorks attractions as you wish.

 

Tuesday – Today we visit the pretty town of Pickering on the border of the North York moors National Park. A vibrant town full of independent shops and plenty of opportunity to explore before our steam train ride up to the village of Goathland famous for the popular ‘Heartbeat’ series. We are including a cream tea in the village before returning by coach back to York.

 

Wednesday – A full day at leisure and opportunity to discover all the major attractions that this beautiful city has to offer including: - York Minster, National Railway Museum, Shambles, Yorks’s Chocolate Story. The choice is yours.

 

Thursday – After a full English breakfast we depart our hotel and head south where our taxis will be waiting to take you safely home after a wonderful holiday exploring

Yorkshire.
