Join us this summer in the beautiful country of Switzerland and experience the world famous ‘Bernina Express’ for unprecedented scenery in panoramic carriages. We are also including the ‘Arosa Express’ train for another magical journey through unspoilt nature, mountainous landscapes and the Langwieser viaduct. With your ‘Davos Card’ you’ll have the opportunity for free use of local public transport and reduced prices for the mountain cable cars, in your free time on the resort.

 

Tour Itinerary

 

Thursday – Our luxury coach will depart this morning, and head to Folkestone where we will catch the Eurotunnel train to Calais, from there we make our way to our overnight hotel in Saarbrucken for our evening meal with comfort stops on route.

 

Friday – After a good night’s rest and a full breakfast, we continue to our main hotel in the beautiful resort of Davos. Arriving late afternoon to a welcome drink and plenty of time to settle in and explore before this evening’s dinner.

 

Saturday – A coach free day today as we introduce you all to the Swiss mountains with a ride on the Schatzalp Mountain Railway, a funicular railway that travels up 300 metres above Davos with superb views as you travel and a delightful relaxing paradise at the top station at an altitude of 1,861 metres. Enjoy a drink or lunch on the natural terrace with panoramic views of the valley below. You may wish to visit the Alpinum botanical gardens which has 10,000 plants featuring 2,000 different species from mountain ranges around the world, the entry is free with your Davos Card. Return in your own time, the rest of the day is yours to do as you wish.

 

Sunday – A highlight today as we begin by taking the train from Davos to Filisur. From here we board the famous ‘Bernina Express’ train for the journey of a lifetime. Over the next 31/2hours, in comfortable seating, from panoramic carriages, you’ll travel through 55 tunnels and over 190 bridges including the circular viaduct with 360degree views, rising amid glaciers and lakes through St Moritz to Tirano in Italy. Once in Tirano, we will have time for lunch before the return journey by coach which is equally spectacular!

 

Monday – Today we enjoy a nostalgic train journey on the legendary cult crocodile locomotive which has been in operation since 1929. The historical carriages will take us on a 40-minute journey from Davos to Filisur through the ruggedly romantic Zügen Gorge, over the famous Wiesen viaduct, giving you a glimpse of the railway world of the early 20^th century. We continue our day with a visit to the chic resort of St Moritz. This thoroughly cosmopolitan alpine resort is a blend of glamour, sport and pristine nature and the birthplace of winter tourism in 1864. It has twice hosted the winter Olympics but is most famous for its mineral springs which established the town as a summer spa resort for the rich and famous.

 

Tuesday – Today we are taking you to the oldest city in Switzerland Chur, located on the banks of the Rhine with its car-free city centre, regular markets and plenty of shops, not forgetting its rich history which dates back 8,000 years BC. This afternoon we take you on another magical return train journey on the Arosa Express where we will trundle through the streets of Chur before climbing through unspoilt nature and mountainous landscape of Schanfigg. We travel over the Langwieser viaduct which passes over the Plessur river to 1,800 metres above sea level to the little town of Arosa which takes about 1 hour. Free time in the lovely surroundings for some lunch before we enjoy our return journey back down the mountain.

 

Wednesday – A free day to relax or use your Davos cards for a complimentary train from Davos to nearby Klosters, famous for skiing holidays for the Royal family.

 

Thursday – Sadly it’s time to say goodbye to Switzerland and make our way to our overnight hotel in Saarbrucken. Comfort stops on route.

 

Friday – We leave Saarbrucken and make our way back up to Calais and our Eurotunnel crossing, once back in the UK we head to Wiltshire and our waiting taxis early evening after a memorable holiday.
