Due to the popularity of this tour in 2023 we are returning to the Lake District again this Autumn to enjoy the spectacular scenery in the beautiful county of Cumbria in all its glorious Autumn colours. We have upgraded our hotel to a different one in Ulverston which has more facilities including an indoor swimming pool.

 

Tour Itinerary

 

Monday – We depart Wiltshire and head north to Cumbria and our hotel in Ulverston for a 6-night stay. We are welcomed with tea & coffee while our cases are taken to our rooms. Comfort stops on route.

 

Tuesday – This morning we travel to Haverthwaite station for a steam train ride up to Lakeside on Windermere where we will meet our boat for a cruise to Bowness-on-Windermere. Free time in this charming town for lunch and an opportunity to visit local craft shops or even “The World of Beatrix Potter”. We return to lakeside back on our boat for more views of the beautiful scenery and magnificent views on England’s largest lake we return to our coach by steam train after our cruise. Back to the hotel late afternoon to relax before dinner.

 

Wednesday – This morning we travel to the coastal village of Ravenglass for a 40-minute steam train ride to the very heart of the Lake District, Dalegarth. After this nostalgic experience we continue to the National Heritage ‘Muncaster Castle’, a privately owned castle overlooking the River Esk and is a designated Grade I listed building. Dating back to medieval England it has been home to the Pennington family for over 800 years. A treasure of beautiful art and antiques collected through the ages by the family who still live there! Standing in over 70 acres of wild woodland gardens, the grounds are also a home to the Hawk and Owl centre, and daily flying demonstrations. We include entrance to all aspects of this majestic attraction, allowing you the whole afternoon to explore at leisure.          

 

Thursday – A free day for you to explore the local area, the village is a mere 5mt walk from the hotel, or you may wish to enjoy the hotel leisure facilities or simply relax in the lounge around an inviting log fire.

 

Friday – Today we take you on a spectacular scenic drive over the breath-taking Kirkstone Pass to Glenridding Pier to join the Ullswater Steamer for an hour-long cruise to Pooley Bridge, an ideal way to take in the stunning views of the Ullswater Valley. We continue our day with a visit to the beautiful home of Lord & Lady Cavendish, ‘Holker Hall’, their family home throughout its 400 year history. We include entry to this beautiful house to see the distinguished library, elegant drawing room, and ornate dinning room. The house is set in 25 acres of formal and woodland gardens, with majestic water features. Just a short drive back to our hotel to relax before dinner.

 

Saturday – Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on this Saturday morning before we set off in the coach for a scenic drive to Carnforth Station and take a nostalgic step back in time to enjoy the ‘Brief Encounter’ experience. We continue to Morecambe Bay, a bustling Victorian town on their Saturday market day. An opportunity for lunch at the seaside and grab a bargain at the indoor market!

 

Sunday – Time to leave Cumbria and head home to Wiltshire and your waiting taxis after a memorable week in Cumbria.
