Join us on this 10-day tour exploring beautiful Austria and Bavaria to experience a variety of excursions and visits for spectacular scenery from our base in a traditional Austrian hotel on the shores of Lake Achen. An opportunity to discover imposing mountains, flower filled meadows, crystal clear lakes and delicious apple strudel!

 

Tour Itinerary

 

Thursday – Our luxury coach will depart this morning and head to Folkestone for our Eurotunnel crossing to Calais. We continue onto Germany for our overnight stay and evening meal. Comfort stops on route.

 

Friday – We leave Germany after a good breakfast and continue our journey to the Austrian Tyrol. Enjoy the changing landscapes as we arrive in Achenkirch and our hotel for the next 7 nights. Time to settle in before this evening’s meal.

 

Saturday – Your first free day to explore or relax. We have included coffee and cake in the hotel this afternoon.

 

Sunday – Today we cross the border into Germany at Lake Chiem in the heart of Bavaria. We board a ferry to the island of Herreninsel the largest island in the Chiemsee lake to visit the prestigious and very beautiful Herrenchiemsee Palace and park. Built for King Ludwig II of Bavaria in 1878, this stunning building was modelled on Versailles in Paris. Unfortunately, when Ludwig II died in 1886, the palace was still incomplete and sections of it were later demolished. The large staterooms, the state staircase, state bedroom and the great hall of mirrors however are hugely impressive as are the beautiful gardens, also resembling that of Versailles complete with fountains and sculptures throughout the grounds. We are including a guided tour of this stunning building along with entrance to King Ludwig II Museum and the Augustinian monastery and church.

 

Monday – Today we visit the Tyrolean capital city of Innsbruck. Surrounded by the jagged rock spires of the Nordkette mountain range. We will enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride through the streets of the old town to discover some of the most important sights including the ornate 15^th century golden roof designed as a royal box for the Emperor and the Triumphal arch. Free time in the city for lunch and shopping before we return to our hotel late afternoon.

 

Tuesday – This morning we visit the small city of Rattenberg for a demonstration of traditional Austrian apple strudel making. We are including a slice of this delicious treat with a hot drink before some free time to browse the local glass shops for which the city is famous for. This afternoon we return to the hotel via the pretty town of Pertisau to ride the Karwendel-Bergbahn mountain cable car up to the Zwoelferkopf mountain in Tyrol. From here you will enjoy stunning views from the large terrace and enjoy a refreshment while watching the paragliders that are drawn to the area thanks to the excellent thermals. We return to the hotel to relax before dinner.

 

Wednesday – Today we cross the border once again and take you to the beautiful Lake Tegernsee in the Bavarian Alps to enjoy a circular cruise. Arriving in Rottach-Egern for a lunch stop before rejoining the boat back to Tegernsee for some free time to enjoy the lovely promenade and the towns beautiful church before the short journey back to our hotel mid-afternoon.

 

Thursday – Your second free day to enjoy our location. Why not purchase a Lake Achensee full day hop on/off cruise ticket from the pier just 450 metres from our hotel!

 

Friday – Sadly it time to leave Austria and head back to Germany and our overnight hotel.

 

Saturday – We leave Germany head to Calais and our crossing back to the UK after a fabulous Austrian holiday.
