Tour Itinerary

Friday – Our luxury coach will depart this morning and head to Folkestone for our Eurotunnel crossing. We overnight in Dijon where we enjoy a 3-course meal. Comfort stops on route.

Saturday – We leave France this morning and travel south to our second overnight stop in the port city of Genoa in Italy. We are spending the night in the fabulous ‘Grand Hotel Savoia’ a 5* hotel in a great location, a real treat for us all! Dinner tonight followed by tea, coffee and time to relax on the rooftop terrace or elegant lounge areas.

Sunday – After a full breakfast we leave Genoa and head to Tuscany and our main stay hotel for the next 7 nights, but not before a visit to Pisa with an opportunity to see the famous leaning tower and the beautiful marble cathedral and baptistry that rises next to it in the Piazza Dei Miracoli. Time for exploration and lunch here before we continue to our hotel in Chianciano Terme. A welcome glass of wine for us while our cases are taken to our rooms, and time to settle in before dinner.

Monday – Your first free day today, to make the most of the facilities and surroundings of our hotel, or perhaps visit the thermal baths or one of the local museums.

Tuesday – This morning we travel to Siena, possible Italy’s’ loveliest medieval city. Here we have a guided walking tour to explore the central piazza, Il Campo with its fountain, the Fonte Gaia, Palazzo Comunale (the city’s town hall) and the Torre del Mangia. After your tour we will enjoy lunch in a local restaurant followed by free time for you to discover the city at your own pace including the impressive Gothic cathedral. Back to the hotel to relax before dinner.

Wednesday – Today we are taking you to the fourth largest lake in Italy Lake Trasimeno, perhaps one on the list of Italy’s lakes that you might not have heard of! Lake Trasimeno is different however, with a much more open feel to it and its water seems a lot calmer by comparison to Lake Garda, Como and Maggiore. There are 3 islands on the lake, and we will visit the largest, Isola Polvese which measures 70 hectares and offers a mixture of small lakeside beaches and a forested interior, crowned by Monastero di San Secondo. Free time to explore and have lunch before we return to our hotel mid-afternoon.

Thursday – This morning we travel to Montepulciano, famous for its excellent wines. This small town is packed with charm and its main street, the Corso, climbs up to the main square on top of the hill. The town is encircled by walls and fortifications and inside the streets are crammed with renaissance style palatial buildings and churches. This afternoon we continue our day visiting the nearby town of Pienza surrounded by the wonderful hills of Val d’orcia. The town constructed in the 1450’s has remained practically unchanged over the centuries and is now a UNESCO world heritage site. An opportunity to have lunch and maybe taste their Pecorino cheese, a local delicacy in the area.

Friday – Today we visit the medieval grand hill town of Orvieto in Umbria, set above fields of vines and olive groves. This lovely town is best accessed by the local funicular which we are including to connect us to the town centre at the top of the rock in Piazza Cahen. At the top, admire the views, explore and have lunch if you wish. Back to the hotel to relax mid-afternoon.

Saturday – Your second free day at leisure in Chianciano Terme.

Sunday – Time to leave our hotel and begin our journey home. Today we are stopping for an extended lunch break in the beautiful walled city of Lucca on the Serchio river. Renaissance walls encircle this historic city and its cobblestone streets, tree lined pathways and the birthplace and home of Puccini. We continue back to our 5* hotel in Genoa for our first overnight stop. Dinner on arrival.

Monday – Leaving Italy today we continue our journey into France and our last night in Dijon. Comfort stops on route.

Tuesday – Leaving Dijon and retracing our steps up to Calais for our Eurotunnel crossing back to the UK. Your taxis will be waiting to take you home on our return to Wiltshire after a fabulous holiday exploring Tuscany.
