Exploring Poland

…..a Polish adventure

12 days 17th August 2024

This superb twin centre tour is based in two of Poland’s most iconic settings, the hugely popular medieval city of Krakow and the beautiful contrasting town of Zakopane, rich in folklore, boasting unique architecture and a dramatic mountainous backdrop. We have included tours of the world heritage site of Auschwitz, The Wieliczka Salt mines, and the Dunajec Valley River rafting trip through one of the most beautiful gorges in Europe. Join us to enjoy these attractions and more on this 12-day Polish adventure.

Tour Itinerary

Saturday – Our Luxury coach will depart this morning and head to Folkestone for our Eurotunnel crossing to Calais, and on to our first overnight hotel in Liege. Relax before dinner tonight, comfort stops on route.

Sunday – We continue our journey leaving Liege and travelling to Dresden for our second overnight stop.

Monday – Today we travel through the Czech Republic and into Southern Poland. Enjoy the changes in the stunning scenery travelling from country to country as we arrive in the beautiful city of Krakow, our base for the next four nights. Enjoy a welcoming glass of sparkling wine while your cases are taken to your rooms. Time to settle in before tonight’s evening meal.

Tuesday – Today we pay a visit to one of the most moving and poignant sites in the whole of Europe. The concentration camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau is listed by UNESCO world heritage as a site of great historical importance given that it was here that 1.5 million people perished between 1942 and 1945 by the Nazis. We will provide a guided tour through the museums and the original camp barracks.

Wednesday – After a relaxing breakfast we have provided you all with a guide for a half day walking tour of this city of Krakow, considered by many to be the most beautiful in the whole of Poland. Our hotel is centrally located, ideally positioned only a five-minute walk from the main market square with the historic cloth hall in its centre. Other attractions include Wawel Royal castle built on Wawel Hill, where people have been living for 50,000 years and where over the past 1,000 years Polish Kings took up residence.

Thursday – This morning we visit the Wieliczka Salt mines, a stunning ‘underground town’ located on nine levels with chambers connected by corridors. We have the chance to visit twenty of the historic chambers with their saline lakes, remarkable salt sculptures and the marvellous St Kinga Chapel. Please note that there is a shortened tour available by lift for groups who are not able to manage stairs (there are a few hundred of these!). You may wish to enjoy lunch in the underground ‘minors tavern’ before we return to our hotel for a free afternoon at leisure.

Friday – After a leisurely breakfast we leave Krakow and make our way southwards to the stunning Polish resort of Zakopane, and our second main stay hotel, located at the foot of the Tatra mountains. Before we arrive at our hotel this afternoon, we will be taking you up on the Gubalowka funicular railway for stunning views of the Tatra mountains across the valley below. Built back in the 1930’s just before the onset of WWII and rising up to 1,200 metres above sea level, it takes just 5 minutes from the base station through the forests to the top station. At the top you’ll discover a series of traditional ‘gorale’ style taverns serving traditional Zakopane food. We continue after lunch to our 4* hotel, our base for the next three nights, complete with full leisure facilities including pool, jacuzzi, and gym.

Saturday – Another highlight today, we make a full day trip to the Pieniny mountains and the beautiful Dunajec valley. We have included a relaxing 2 hour guided river rafting trip from Katy harbour. Rafting has been practised here for centuries and our journey on traditional wooden rafts will take us about 18 kilometres down the Dunajec River through one of the most beautiful gorges in Europe, ending in the Szczawnica harbour.

Sunday – Today is a free day for you all to enjoy this beautiful resort, explore the town at your own pace or simply relax in this fabulous hotel.

Monday – Time to leave Poland and return to Dresden for our first overnight. Comfort stops on route.

Tuesday – We continue our journey home, and Liege for our last night before returning to the UK.

Wednesday – We leave Liege and travel the fairly short journey up to Calais for our crossing. Returning to the UK late afternoon, on to Wiltshire for your waiting taxis after your Polish adventure.
