Enjoy pre-Christmas in the Lake District and savour an impressive display of natural splendour as the leaves turn from green to gold with the reflections in the mirror stillness of the Lakes. An opportunity to start your Christmas shopping in the Cumbrian shops, enjoy a lake cruise for spectacular scenery, a nostalgic visit to the Lakeland motor museum and Carnforth station for the ‘Brief Encounter’ experience. All this plus festive entertainment and an early Christmas dinner with all the trimmings!

 

Tour Itinerary

           

Monday – We depart Wiltshire and travel north to the beautiful county of Cumbria and our charming hotel in Grange-over-sands. Plenty of time to settle in before tonight’s evening meal. Comfort stops on route.

 

Tuesday – This morning we will enjoy a scenic lake cruise from Bowness on Windermere. Relax on this 45 minute trip up to Lakeside where we continue our day with a visit to the Lakeland Motor museum to see a fascinating collection of over 30,000 exhibits that trace the development of road transport throughout the 20^th century, from cars, motorbikes, cycles, automobilia and even a tribute to Donald Campbell with a full-size replica of the 1935 Blue Bird car, K4boat and 1967 jet hydroplane Bluebird k7. A great nostalgic afternoon for us all!

 

Wednesday – This morning we travel over the Kirkstone mountain pass, the Lake District’s highest pass open to traffic at an altitude of 1,500 feet above sea level. We arrive at the pretty market town of Keswick for a lunch stop, an opportunity to explore this town surrounded by mountains and popular with hikers and tourists with plenty of amazing shops and attractive restaurants & cafes. Back to the hotel mid-afternoon giving you a chance to explore Grange-over-sands with its long seafront promenade looking over Morecambe Bay, an excellent example of a prosperous Edwardian seaside resort, boasting ornamental gardens and fine cafes.

 

Thursday – Today we visit Carnforth Station for yet another step back in time to enjoy a fascinating nostalgic ‘Brief Encounter’ experience, where the famous film was shot for the station scenes. Full of photo’s, memorabilia and playing the film itself, which was made in 1945, this award-winning heritage centre lies within the working station, a must for all you ‘Brief Encounter’ fans! We continue the day with a visit to Morecambe Bay with its famous promenade home to the Eric Morecambe statue, and as Thursday is market day, you’ll be able to explore over 80 stalls at Morecambe’s festival market.

 

Friday – Sadly it’s time to leave our hotel and head home after this memorable festive break.
