Tossa de Mar is a charming and picturesque beach resort on the Costa Brava coast of Spain. It has been dubbed the ‘blue paradise’ by painters who meet from around the world to paint one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. The charming "old town" with its castle walls surrounding parts of the city and ‘La Vila Vella’ castle gives Tossa a truly medieval feel. Join us to enjoy the beaches, hidden bays with crystal waters, pebbled streets and delicious fresh fish in the many restaurants, a glass bottom boat trip, the beautiful botanical gardens in Blanes, the historic city of Girona and the benedictine monk mountain retreat of Montserrat, on this interesting but relaxing trip in this beautiful part of Spain. We are combining plenty of free days between excursions for relaxation or exploration as you wish.

 

Tour Itinerary

 

Tuesday – Our luxury coach will depart this morning, and head to Folkestone where we will catch the Eurotunnel Train to Calais, from there we make our way to Dijon and our overnight hotel in time for our evening meal. Comfort stops on route.

 

Wednesday – We depart after breakfast and travel to Tossa de Mar and our hotel for the next 9 nights. Time to settle in before dinner.

 

Thursday – Your first free day on the resort and today is ‘Market day’ in Tossa! The market is huge, so an opportunity to pick up some great bargains.

 

Friday – Our excursion today takes us to one of the most popular and unique treasures that Catalonia has to offer, Montserrat. We’ll enjoy a scenic drive to this deeply religious site which symbolises one of the most important pilgrimage locations in the world. We will be including the funicular railway offering spectacular views as you climb the mountain where you’ll have free time to explore the Monastery, Basilica, the museums, a selection of shops and restaurants which have been adapted to ensure that its manageable even if you are a limited mobility traveller.

 

Saturday – Today we have arranged the local ‘road’ train to pick us up from our hotel and take us around the town before dropping us off at the beach where we will join a ‘glass bottomed boat’ for a lovely trip along this beautiful coastline. We will enjoy a 45-minute trip into small coves to view the sea creatures through the glass before we arrive at Cala Giverola which is a small quiet beach with a small resort behind it. We will stop for an hour or so here with a chance for a coffee (or something stronger!) a bite to eat and maybe a swim before we return to the boat and back to Tossa mid-afternoon. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy as you please.

 

Sunday – Your second free day on the resort to relax and enjoy the facilities our hotel has to offer.

 

Monday – We start our day with a trip to Blanes and the beautiful Marimurtra Botanical gardens. Here you see more than 4,000 species of Mediterranean flora and stunning views of the coastline. In the afternoon we have free time in Blanes for lunch and maybe have a dip in the sea

 

Tuesday – Another day at leisure to do as you please.

 

Wednesday – This morning we head to the historic gem of Besalú, a magnificent example of a medieval town and one of the best preserved in Spain. Full to the brim with character, you can explore its cobbled streets, admire the ancient facades of its impressive architecture representing Romanesque, Gothic and Medieval influences. This afternoon, we make our way to the historic city of Girona where the beautiful Roman walled old quarter is dominated by the 11^th century cathedral tower and its baroque façade. A labyrinth of narrow medieval streets and passageways makes this area one of the most picturesque in Catalonia.

 

Thursday – Your final free day before we leave tomorrow. An opportunity to enjoy the local shops and restaurants and not forgetting the beautiful sandy beach within walking distance of our hotel.

 

Friday – Sadly we say goodbye to Spain and make our way back to Dijon for our overnight stop. Dinner on arrival.

 

Saturday – We leave Dijon and make our way back to Calais and our Eurotunnel crossing back to the UK after a wonderful holiday in Tossa de Mar.
