Tour Itinerary
Wednesday We leave this morning and continue to our main hotel in the Black Forest via the historical village of Lahr. To celebrate the arrival of Autumn each year, this festival of more than 10,000 chrysanthemums are arranged in vibrant displays making this picturesque village a sea of colour. Free time to enjoy the displays and have lunch before we arrive at our hotel late afternoon.
Thursday A free day for you to enjoy a day relaxing in this fabulous spa resort, making the most of the leisure facilities. The town of Bad Dürrheim is less than a 10-minute walk away.
Friday Today we cross the border into Switzerland to visit Europes largest waterfall to experience the drama and the beauty of the magnificent Rhine Falls. We will take you on a 30-minute boat trip with an audio guide and sail close to the central rock which has withstood the elements for a thousand years. After this memorable experience we continue to the nearby Schaffhausen, a Swiss town on the upper Rhine river. A traffic free old town is considered one of the prettiest in Switzerland and a leader in luxury watch making. An opportunity for lunch amongst the beautiful landscape and lavishly painted facades.
Saturday Today we visit the vibrant university city of Freiburg in the southwest of the Black Forest. This medieval town with its gothic cathedral boasts a huge market on Saturdays. All morning here to explore and have lunch before we continue to Hofgut Sternen Black Forest Village. This complex has a collection of demonstrators including Black Forest gateau making, glass blowing and extensive cuckoo clocks!
Sunday This morning we visit the pretty little town of Triberg, home to the worlds biggest Cuckoo clock! This masterpiece is 15 feet high, weights 6 tons and has a 36-foot pendulum, you can even walk inside it! We continue to the Alpine Lake resort of Titisee. A glacier formed lake giving it a magical colour. Free time to have lunch and browse the variety of shops in this idyllic setting.
Monday Your second free day to relax and enjoy the facilities at our hotel.
Tuesday Today we leave our main hotel and head to the capital of the Black Forest area, Baden-Baden. Our first stop will be to take you up on the Merkur funicular railway, Germanys longest funicular ascending 668 metres for stunning and spectacular views of the city below. Enjoy a coffee at the top before we return to the town (by funicular) for lunch and then we continue to our overnight hotel in Saarbrucken.
Wednesday We leave Germany and travel up through France to Calais for our Eurotunnel crossing back to the UK. Your taxis will be waiting for you in Wiltshire to take you safely home after your Black Forest Experience!
