Enjoy a ‘mini cruise’ instead of the longer journey by coach and 4 nights in the fabulous 4* Olimpo hotel less than an hour from Santander. Cantabria in Northern Spain offers a stunning coastline, an enviable range of historic villages and ports and the beautiful Picos de Europa mountains. Our 4* hotel has a spectacular setting in the village of Isla, overlooking the bay and close to Santander, a perfect base to enjoy this picturesque corner of northern Spain. We include fabulous excursions and wine & mineral water and entertainment each night in the hotel.

Tour Itinerary

 

Wednesday-Thursday – A relaxed beginning to your holiday as we leave Wiltshire and head down to Plymouth for free time for lunch before our afternoon sailing to Santander. Our ‘mini cruise’ takes approx. 20-hours so you will have en-suite cabins (no bunk beds) and plenty of time to enjoy this huge ship for the duration of your journey. Please note that meals on board are NOT included. Once we dock in Santander, we travel less than an hour to our hotel in Isla, mid-afternoon, our base for the next 4 nights.

 

Friday – This morning we travel the short distance to the attractive coastal town of Laredo. Famous for its beautiful long sandy beach and historical town with traditional houses and cobbled streets. A relaxed morning to explore, enjoy a stroll along the outstanding 5-kilometre beach and an opportunity for lunch in the many cafes and restaurants dotted throughout this lively little town. This afternoon we will enjoy a boat cruise around the stunning Santona Bay.

 

Saturday – We begin our day with a morning stop in San Vincente, an old fisherman’s refuse offering one of the most picturesque landscapes on the Cantabrian coast with its exceptional backdrop of the snow capped Picos de Europa mountain range. We then join the River Deva Valley, winding our way through the canyon arriving in the lovely market town of Potes. Free time here for lunch and exploration before we retrace our steps through the scenic gorge and back to our hotel to relax before dinner.

 

Sunday – A day to relax on the resort, enjoy the hotels lush gardens which have direct access to a sandy beach. The hotel has a beautiful outdoor swimming pool and terrace and is only a 5-minute walk from the centre of the village.

 

Monday – We leave the hotel after a leisurely breakfast and travel back to Santander for some free time in this lovely city before our late afternoon crossing back to the UK. We have arranged the little tourist land train for a panoramic tour of the Magdalena Peninsula, stopping at the Magdalena Palace and back into town for lunch at leisure before our ‘mini cruise’ back to Plymouth.

 

Tuesday – Arriving back in the UK mid-afternoon we continue up to Wiltshire and your waiting taxis after a lovely Spanish break.
