Tour Itinerary
Sunday We set off in our luxury coach and head for Folkestone and our Eurotunnel crossing. We continue to Holland and our 4* hotel in Nunspeet with time to settle in before dinner. Comfort stops on route.
Monday Today we are taking you to the beautiful medieval city of Amersfoort, voted European City of the Year in 2024 due to its beautiful architecture and happy residents. We are including a ticket for you all to use the hop on, hop off tourist train for you to enjoy this charming city and all its attractions. The main attraction that has made Amersfoort a world-famous pilgrimage destination is the Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren (The Tower of our Lady). At 98 metres tall, the church tower is visible from all corners of the city. The city owes this tower to the miracle of Amersfoort. In 1444, a statue of the virgin Mary was found in the outer moat. When this statue appeared to cause all kinds of miracles, the tower became a historical landmark. You may wish to climb the 346 steps to be rewarded with panoramic views of the city and beyond. Due to the citys location on the Eem River, the city had plenty of clean water, so breweries are everywhere promoting their unique beers! Theres a fascinating story to be told around every street corner and an abundance of theatres, restaurants and shops to explore, all that much easier with your day pass on the tourist train.
Tuesday A free day for you all today to enjoy the beautiful grounds and leisure facilities at our hotel. There is also a railway station within a 5-minute walking distance from which you could visit Amsterdam if you so wish.
Wednesday Today we visit the heritage village of Zaanse Schans, where the 18th & 19th centuries are brought to life. A living village where residents still live and practise traditional crafts in buildings that were transported to the area from 1961. See working windmills, traditional bakeries and a wide range of museums to discover old Dutch crafts such as sailcloth weaving and cheesemaking. Time to explore and have lunch before returning to the hotel mid-afternoon to relax before dinner.
Thursday Todays excursion takes us to a cheese and clogs farm where you will see how traditional wooden clogs are made as well as a cheese making demonstration followed by tasting! Afterwards we continue to the picturesque fishing village of Volendam. You may wish to sample their wonderful fish dishes or some more genuine Dutch apple pie!
Friday We begin our day with a visit to the Castle de Haar a beautiful castle and the largest and most luxurious castle in the Netherlands and is one of the top European historic houses. A visit here to take you back to the glory days of the breathtaking splendour that surrounded the international rich and famous in the early 20th century. Like a real fairytale castle, it rises majestically from parkland with impressive trees, gardens and ponds. We continue our day taking you to nearby Utrecht, a medieval city with a rich heritage and contemporary shopping scene. We are including a 1-hour canal boat trip to discover the beauty of this city with English commentary and to share fascinating stories through the enchanting canals and moats, under graceful bridges and past iconic statues, the best way to see Utrecht and to immerse yourself in the splendour of this beautiful city.
Saturday This morning we head north and cross the N307, a 26 Kilometre bridge over the Houtribdijk dam offering fabulous water views from the coach. On arrival in Enkhuizen we embark on a cruise along the coast of lake Ijsselmeer, one of the largest, inland freshwater lakes in Holland! We arrive in Medemblik where we have some free time in this beautiful historic city and its harbour. We then join a traditional steam train and trundle through historical pretty villages and the Dutch countryside in this old-fashioned train. When we arrive in Hoorn, you will have time to browse the local shops before we return to the coach to take us back to the hotel.
Sunday Your Second free day to relax, enjoy the beautiful grounds and swimming pool at the hotel before our journey back tomorrow.
Monday Sadly we leave Holland and retrace our steps back to the UK after a wonderful Dutch holiday!
