Once again, we are returning to the beautiful affluent resort of Stresa on Lake Maggiore. This year we are staying in the majestic ‘Hotel Regina Palace’, an art nouveau building offering refined classic-style interiors with beautiful gardens complete with swimming pools right on the shores of beautiful Lake Maggiore. Free days as well as fabulous excursions complete the tour including the Maggiore Express train, a cruise from Switzerland and the beautiful Borromean Islands. Tour Itinerary

 

Tuesday – Our door-to-door service takes you to our luxury coach and we head down to Folkestone for our Eurotunnel crossing to Calais, we continue to Saarbrucken in Germany for our overnight stop, comfort stops on route.

 

Wednesday – Continuing south over the Vosges Mountains, we enter Switzerland and head for the Alp’s over the Gothard pass to Lake Maggiore in Italy.

 

Thursday – Today we explore the Borromean Islands which lie directly opposite Stresa and our hotel. We first visit Isola Bella Island the most admired of the three islands and housing the beautiful Palace and Gardens. After free time here we visit Isola dei Pescatori a small fishing island for a chance for lunch and some shopping before returning to our hotel.

 

Friday – A free day to explore this lovely town, and today is Market day in Stresa, so why not grab yourself a bargain from this extensive market within easy walking distance from our hotel.

 

Saturday – Today is the highlight of our tour to enjoy the delights of the Maggiore Express and boat trip back to Stresa. We begin our day departing Stresa by train up to Domodossola. We then transfer you to the scenic high-level railway, the ‘Centovalli’. This 60-Kilometre-long track leads across the dizzying heights of viaducts, past deep ravines, and thundering waterfalls, through sunlit chestnut forests and fertile vineyards, tunnels, and hairpin bends. The train takes approx. 2 hours and brings us to Locarno, a bustling town on the Swiss shores of Lake Maggiore. You will have time to relax, have lunch and explore this lovely town before our departure by boat from this Swiss corner of the lake back to Stresa. This boat trip lasts approx. 3 hours, so plenty of opportunity to enjoy the glorious scenery while on board. We arrive back to our hotel in time for dinner to complete our day.

 

Sunday – Your second day to do as you please and an opportunity to use the extensive hotel spa facilities including indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, Turkish bath, and tennis court. There is a lovely furnished terrace around the outside pool to relax and enjoy the spring Italian sunshine.

Monday – Today we visit the nearby Lake Orta west of Lake Maggiore, a much smaller enchanting lake and defiantly a hidden gem! The main town on the lake is Orta San Giulio, a gentle stroll through this old historic town and a combination of lakeside ambiance and medieval charm. At its centre is one of the prettiest piazzas in northern Italy, a great place to enjoy the views and people watch while enjoying lunch in one of the charming little cafes.

 

Tuesday – Your final free day in Stresa to enjoy this charming resort as you please.

 

Wednesday – Sadly, we say goodbye to Italy and travel back up to Germany and our overnight hotel. Comfort stops on route.

 

Thursday – We leave Saarbrucken and make our way back up to Calais and our Eurotunnel crossing, once back in the UK we head to Wiltshire and our waiting taxis early evening after a memorable holiday.
