Tour Itinerary
Wednesday We begin our tour travelling to south Wales and Fishguard for our ferry crossing over to the Emerald Isle. We will arrive in Waterford, and our family run hotel in plenty of time before tonights evening meal. Welcome tea and coffee on arrival while your cases are taken to your rooms.
Friday Today we travel the short distance to Co. Wexford and New Ross. Here we discover the Dunbrody Famine ship where youll enjoy costumed performers who will provide a world class interpretation of the famine emigrant experience. They will provide you with a unique insight into the bravery and fortitude of the Irish folk. An opportunity for lunch in New Ross before we continue our day with a visit to the famous Mount Congreve gardens. Home to the largest collection of plants in Ireland, these gardens offer spectacular displays of blooms throughout the year with over 50 different varieties of hydrangeas in these summer months. Explore these grounds at leisure before we make the short journey back to our hotel to relax before this evenings dinner.
Saturday A free day for you all today to explore Waterford. You may wish to visit the famous Waterford Crystal. The show rooms are free to visit and exhibit some fantastic pieces of the most beautiful cut glass to admire or even join one of their tours! (Extra charge locally).
Sunday We have a leisurely leave this morning and head east towards Dublin via our first stop at Avoca village in Co. Wicklow famous for the filming of Bally Kiss Angel to visit the splendid Avoca weaving mill. We will enjoy a mill tour to see firsthand where their signature blankets, scarves and coats come from and see them being made by hand. Youll enjoy a fun and informative tour of Irelands oldest weaving mill and will be shown the steps involved in the weaving process. Free time to browse the showrooms and an opportunity to have lunch or refreshments in the onsite café if you wish. We continue after lunch through Co. Wicklow and the beautiful Wicklow National park, through Roundwood and Laragh to Glendalough, an ancient monastic site established by St Kevin in a glacial valley founded in the 6th century. The ancient ruins of Glendalough include several churches and an impressive 30-metre-high round tower. The valley stretches for about 3 kilometres and is an area of outstanding natural beauty. We have included admission to the visitor centre if you wish to learn more about the history of this iconic site. We continue after this visit to our second hotel in Stillorgan, Co. Dublin our base for the next 4 nights.
Monday Today we will enjoy a step-on guided tour of the beautiful city of Dublin, Irelands vibrant capital city on the mouth of the River Liffey, our guide will talk us round the iconic landmarks and history in the comfort of our own coach before a free afternoon to explore the city at leisure.
Tuesday Back into Dublin today to enjoy an hours Dublin Bay cruise from Dun Laoghaire Harbour. Youll enjoy breathtaking views of landmarks such as Dalkey Island and Poolbeg lighthouses, the Eastlink Bridge and the convention centre, unfolding the beauty of Dublin Bay. Free time in the city for lunch before we take you to savour the sights, sounds, tastes and aromas of the world famous Guinness, join us beyond the gates at the home of the black stuff for a classical self-guided tour through seven immersive floors, finishing of course with your own Guiness to enjoy in the Gravity Bar. The tour takes approx. one and a half hours and for those of you that dont drink alcohol, there is a 0% version to try if you prefer.
Wednesday This morning we head to Phoenix Park to Farmleigh House and gardens. We will enjoy a guided tour of this beautiful Edwardian mansion constructed by the great grandson of Arthur Guinness in the 1880s. Set on a 78-acre estate inside Dublins Phoenix Park, the government purchased it in 1999 to provide accommodation for high level meetings and visiting guests of the nation. Many of the artworks and furnishings Guinness collected remain in the house including a stunning collection of rare books and manuscripts in the library. The grounds contain wonderful Edwardian and Victorian ornamental features with walled sunken gardens and scenic lakeside views. The estate also boasts a working farm with a herd of Kerry cows! We return to the hotel this afternoon for an opportunity to explore Stillorgan.
Thursday We leave Stillorgan after a full Irish breakfast to visit the well-presented medieval town of Kilkenny. We are including the local tourist land train tour for you to be guided through the narrow streets to reveal the Abbey, Cathedral and Castle, just a few of the highlights of this fascinating city. Free time here after your tour with an opportunity to visit the castle. Back to Waterford and Dooleys hotel for our last night before we leave tomorrow.
Friday An early morning start to enable us to get a morning ferry back to Wales. We will be serving complimentary hot drinks and biscuits on the coach this morning before we get to the port. Once onboard the ferry, we have included a full Irish breakfast for you to enjoy at a more relaxed time. Once back in Wales we continue back into England and Wiltshire arriving late afternoon after a memorable holiday in the Emerald Isles.
