Step back in time on this tour and explore the fascinating history and the beautiful Shropshire countryside on excursions including the award winning Blists Hill Victorian Town, a relaxing cruise on the River Severn, RAF Cosford, The British Ironwork centre and a delicious cream tea at the Secret Garden Tearoom in Great Witley and not forgetting the famous village of Ironbridge in the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge. Staying in a 4* hotel in Telford with full leisure facilities allows a comfortable, relaxing but interesting tour.
Tuesday A short drive to medieval Shrewsbury, the first home of Charles Darwin for a cruise on the River Severn followed by time at leisure for lunch and to explore the beautiful, cobbled streets and excellent shopping on offer. This afternoon we visit the British Ironwork centre, the UKs largest centre for decorative metal work. Well, known for its Spoon Gorilla, made from 40,000 spoons! The Knife Angel made from over 100,000 seized blades and the Manchester Bee made entirely of firearms. Make your way around this fascinating sculpture park at your own pace before we return to the hotel to relax before dinner.
Wednesday After a relaxed full English breakfast, we travel the short distance to Blists Hill Victorian Town an open-air museum that will whisk you back to the Victorian era, recreating the sights, sounds and smells of a Victorian Shropshire town in the late 19th century. For the Peaky Blinders fans, you may recognise that scenes from this famous series were indeed filmed here. The museum was built on a former industrial complex and now offers the opportunity to see various buildings such as the bank, bakery, post office, school, pub and lots more, staffed by costumed demonstrators, trained in the skills and history of the projection they re-enact. Explore at leisure, we return mid-afternoon to Telford for an opportunity to enjoy the leisure facilities and grounds of our hotel.
Thursday After a leisurely breakfast we begin our day with a visit to RAF Cosford. Youll spend the morning discovering displays of aircraft, iconic cars, model tanks, and so much more! Marvel at the worlds oldest Spitfire and several other classic aircrafts in the War in the Air hanger. This afternoon we are taking you to Great Witley for a traditional cream tea, scones, jam and cream and a lovely cuppa all served on bone china! After this delicious treat we visit nearby Great Witley Parish Church with the most stunning interior of any Baroque church in England. This hidden gem delights all that visit with displays about the history of this wonderful building.
Friday A relaxed leave from our hotel to visit the nearby village of Ironbridge on the banks of the River Severn in the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge. Famous for the worlds first iron bridge that gave the village its name which was constructed in 1779 in the gorge known throughout the world as the birthplace of the industrial revolution. The bridge itself, an iconic landmark and now a UNESCO heritage site. After your visit we continue down to Wiltshire and your waiting taxis after a memorable break in Shropshire.
