Join us this summer in the beautiful country of Switzerland and experience the world famous ‘Bernina Express’ for unprecedented scenery in panoramic carriages. We are also including the ‘Arosa Express’ train for another magical journey through unspoilt nature, mountainous landscapes and the Langwieser viaduct. We are also visiting iconic ‘Klosters’ a favourite destination for the Royal family and also the tiny country of Liechtenstein, Europe’s 4^th smallest country.

 

 

Tour Itinerary

 

Tuesday – Our luxury coach will depart this morning, and head to Folkestone where we will catch the Eurotunnel train to Calais, from there we make our way to our overnight hotel in Saarbrucken for our evening meal with comfort stops on route.

 

Wednesday – After a good night’s rest and a full breakfast, we continue to our main hotel in the beautiful resort of Davos. Arriving late afternoon with plenty of time to settle in and explore before this evening’s dinner.

 

Thursday – A free day to explore this lovely city. Our hotel is at the ‘Dorf’ end of town, which has a more relaxed village atmosphere. You will have a complimentary ‘Davos card’ which gives you free travel on local buses, enabling easy access down into the main town if you wish. The hotel offers complimentary tea, coffee, and fruit at 4pm daily.

 

Friday – The highlight of the tour today, the iconic Bernina Express train journey, deemed as ‘one of the greatest train journeys in the world’ an early start this morning as we travel by coach to Pontresina to board the ‘Bernina Express’ train in Panoramic carriages, for a once in a lifetime journey. This leg of the journey takes approx. 2 hours 20 minutes and climbs past the Morteratsch Glacier, Ospizio Bernina (the highest point at 2,253 metres) Alp Grum, and Poschiavo, before arriving in Tirano, Italy. There will be approx. two and a half hours in Tirano for sightseeing, lunch and maybe an authentic Italian ice-cream before we enjoy a return journey back on this fabulous train to Pontresina. During this fantastic experience, you’ll travel through 55 tunnels and over 190 bridges, including the circular viaduct with 360° views, and being a return journey gives you all the opportunity to see the landscapes from both sides of the train.

 

Saturday – We begin our day with a coffee stop at nearby ‘Klosters’ a famous destination for the Royals. We continue to the tiny, wealthy, German speaking country of Liechtenstein, located in the Alps between Switzerland and Austria. This peaceful, landlocked nation, is known for its medieval castles, alpine landscapes and villages. We visit Vaduz and enjoy a 35-minute sightseeing tour of the city on the local tourist land train which will pass through the historic town, panoramic castle and surrounding countryside. Free time for lunch in town before we continue our day with a visit to the stunning Viamala Gorge. Carved into the solid rock, thousands of years ago by glacial ice and the waters of the Hinterrhein. A brief stop to admire the depth of this narrow gorge along the river before we head back to the hotel along the scenic Albula Pass.

 

Sunday – Today we are taking you to the oldest city in Switzerland Chur, located on the banks of the Rhine with its car-free city centre, regular markets and plenty of shops, not forgetting its rich history which dates back 8,000 years BC. Late morning we take you on another magical return train journey on the Arosa Express where we will trundle through the streets of Chur before climbing through unspoilt nature and mountainous landscape of Schanfigg. We travel over the Langwieser viaduct which passes over the Plessur river to 1,800 metres above sea level to the little town of Arosa which takes about 1 hour. Free time in the lovely surroundings for some lunch before we enjoy our return journey back down the mountain.

 

Monday – Your second free day to relax or explore. There is complimentary tea, coffee and fruit in the hotel at 4pm.

 

Tuesday – Sadly it’s time to say goodbye to Switzerland and make our way to our overnight hotel in Saarbrucken. Comfort stops on route.

 

Wednesday – We leave Saarbrucken and make our way back up to Calais and our Eurotunnel crossing, once back in the UK we head to Wiltshire and our waiting taxis early evening after a memorable holiday.
