Staying in the 4* Radison Blue hotel on the shores of the River Wear and boasting fantastic views of Durham cathedral, join us for Easter in the Northeast of England to explore the beautiful cities of Durham & Newcastle and the fabulous Beamish living museum. With hot cross buns on Good Friday, Easter Sunday lunch and of course Easter eggs for you all!

 

Tour Itinerary

 

Thursday – After joining your luxury coach this morning, we head up to County Durham and our hotel for the next 4 nights. Comfort stops on route.

 

Good Friday – Today we will be joined by a step-on guide to the wealthiest coal port in the country ‘Newcastle’, the regional capital of the Northeast of England. Our guide will talk us through this metropolitan city on the comfort of our coach to visit the iconic bridges, the Georgian architecture, its 10^th century castle and cathedral and more. Free time after our tour for exploration at leisure and an opportunity for lunch before we return to our hotel mid-afternoon for traditional hot cross buns! An opportunity to use the hotels heated swimming pool before this evening’s dinner.

 

Saturday – We begin our day with a visit to the National railway museum at Shildon to discover Europe’s largest undercover collection of heritage railway vehicles. Step on board a historic steam engine and see the inner workings of a locomotive up close. Enjoy a coffee in the tearoom if you wish before we return to Durham for a one-hour cruise to take in Durhams most spectacular landmarks from a unique perspective. The rest of the day is yours to explore Durham at leisure with its mighty castle and opulent cathedral (close to our hotel) which was used for Harry Potter filming locations.

 

Easter Sunday – This morning we visit the ever-popular living museum ‘Beamish’. This multi award winning museum is unique, objects aren’t locked away in glass cases, this really is hands-on-history. Explore the 350-acre site and meet costumed folk who will share stories with you from days gone by. Ride a steam train, a vintage tram or bus, go underground at a real coal mine, visit the shops, schools, pubs all set in the last century. Explore furnished houses, a dentist’s surgery and experience the sights, smells and tasted of the past at your own pace. All these attractions and unlimited travel on the buses and trams are included in your ticket. We return back to the hotel for a traditional Sunday lunch and an afternoon for you to relax or use the hotel leisure facilities.

 

Easter Monday – We say goodbye to Northumberland and travel back down south after a memorable Easter. Comfort stops on route, taxis waiting to take you home safely.
