Once again, we return to Northumberland to step back into a magical Christmas past and discover sounds, sights and traditional festivities from yesteryear. Discover Beamish winter bazaar, the winter fun fair and ice-rink, sideshows and a full traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings at this living museum. We are also including the Alnwick winter light trail, a spectacular and immersive experience of sound and light as you walk through the gardens of Alnwick castle at dusk for this magical opportunity to see the grounds like never before.

Tour Itinerary

 

Sunday – We depart Wiltshire and head north to our hotel in Tyne & Wear with welcome tea and coffee on arrival while your cases are taken to your rooms.

 

Monday – One of the highlights of this festive break as we visit Beamish ‘The Living Museum of the North’. Telling the story of life in Northeast England during the 1820’s, 1900’s and 1940’s, see how families lived in the years leading up to the First and Second World Wars. Discover how life was on the Home Front, ride the tram and the railway and visit authentic shops, a colliery, a church, schoolhouse and many more fascinating buildings to nostalgically take you back to life in the previous century. We will also enjoy a full festive 3 course lunch in a private room overlooking the award-winning town. After your delicious lunch, enjoy tea or coffee before continuing to explore this ‘living museum’ for the rest of the afternoon before returning to our coach and back to our hotel for dinner.

 

Tuesday – We begin our day with a visit to the National Railway Museum at Shildon to see an amazing collection of locomotives, and extension of the railway museum in York. A fascinating morning before we continue to Durham, for free time to have lunch and explore this historical city including its beautiful cathedral, one of the oldest in England, and even used in the filming of the Harry Potter films. Returning to our hotel at dusk to relax before tonight’s dinner.

 

Wednesday – A free morning for you and an opportunity to explore the city of Newcastle from our hotel which is conveniently located on the quayside in the heart of the city. Have lunch at leisure before we take you late afternoon to Alnwick castle grounds to experience the Alnwick Garden winter light trail. This spectacular immerses you in a dazzling display of lights along the sparkling trail transporting you to a winter wonderland. Returning to the hotel, for a slightly later dinner this evening.

 

Thursday – Time to leave Northumberland and head back down south to Wiltshire and your waiting taxis after this super festive break.
